The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau held Tokyo Regional Sake Awards 2020 and examined the entries in the six categories of Ginjo, Junmai Ginjo, Kanzake, Junmai Kanzake, Honkaku Shochu, and Beer and Happoshu. The initial judgement for Ginjo, Junmai Ginjo, Kanzake, Junmai Kanzake and Honkaku Shochu took place on September 17, 18, 24 and 25, and the final judgment for Ginjo, Junmai Ginjo, Kanzake, Junmai Kanzake and Honkaku Shochu on September 29 and October 2. The judgement for Beer and Happoshu took place on November 10 and 12.

Overall, there were entries of 25 items from 25 breweries in the Ginjo category, 31 items from 31 breweries in the Junmai Ginjo category, 24 items from 24 breweries in the Kanzake category, 30 items from 30 breweries in the Junmai Kanzake category, 18 items from 8 distilleries in the Honkaku Shochu category, and 74 items from 26 breweries in the Beer and Happoshu category.

Each of the examination was performed by 9 to 10 judges who are proficient in the sensory evaluation of alcoholic beverages. Taste, aroma, and the harmony of flavors were evaluated deliberately and impartially, by using an identification of the characteristic and a scoring method.

As a result, the honor prizes were awarded to 10 breweries in the Ginjo category, 12 breweries in the Junmai Ginjo category, 9 breweries in the Kanzake category, 12 breweries in the Junmai Kanzake category, and 3 distilleries in the Honkaku Shochu category.
