Shikoku Sake Awards 2019
Outline
The Shikoku Sake Awards (Shikoku Seishu Kanpyokai) are held annually in autumn by the Takamatsu Regional Taxation Bureau.
The purpose of this competition is, through evaluating the quality of sake, to raise the technical level of sake manufacturers in the Shikoku region (i.e., Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime and Kochi Prefectures), to improve the quality of sake brewed in the Shikoku region, and to contribute to the sound development of the sake industry.

When Kan-shu entrants were evaluated, the entrants were served warm.
Quality of Entrants
As for ginjo-shu, there have been many high-quality products where the graceful ginjo aroma and soft sweetness harmonize nicely.
As for kan-shu, there have been a wide variety of products from those that are light and delicate to those that are thick and rich, many of them having superior quality as kan-shu.
Regarding the brewing conditions, the differences in the characteristics brought about by the breed or the area of production of rice were relatively large. Also, it had been a warm winter in many regions, and we heard many opinions that the brewers had a hard time controlling the fermentation of moromi.
Under such conditions, wonderful sake products were made at many brewing sites this year as well, each of them fully exerting their superb brewing techniques which they have been cultivating over a long period of time, throughout the stages from production to storage management.

12 breweries won prizes in the Ginjo-shu category, and 14 breweries won prizes in the Kan-shu category.
