The Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau held Tokyo Regional Sake Awards 2018 and examined the entries in the six categories of Ginjo, Junmai Ginjo, Kanzake, Junmai Kanzake, Honkaku Shochu, and Beer and Happoshu. The initial judgment took place on September 25 and 26, and the final judgment on September 26 and 28.

Overall, there were entries of 29 items from 29 breweries in the Ginjo category, 33 items from 33 breweries in the Junmai Ginjo category, 26 items from 26 breweries in the Kanzake category, 37 items from 37 breweries in the Junmai Kanzake category, 22 items from 11 breweries in the Honkaku Shochu category, and 47 items from 20 breweries in the Beer and Happoshu category.

Each of the examination was performed by 10 to 12 judges who are proficient in the sensory evaluation of alcoholic beverages. Taste, aroma, and the harmony of taste and aroma were evaluated deliberately and impartially, by using an identification of the characteristic and a scoring method.

As a result, the honor prizes were awarded to 11 breweries in the Ginjo category, 13 breweries in the Junmai Ginjo category, 10 breweries in the Kanzake category, 14 breweries in the Junmai Kanzake category, and 4 breweries in the Honkaku Shochu category. The awards ceremony was held on October 30 at the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau.

In addition, the event for providing the opportunity for brewers to see the quality of each entry was held on the same day.
