6. Shikoku Sake Awards 2018

Outline

The Shikoku Sake Awards (Shikoku Seishu Kanpyokai) are held annually in autumn by the Takamatsu Regional Taxation Bureau.

The purpose of this competition is, through evaluating the quality of sake, to raise the technical level of sake manufacturers in the Shikoku region (i.e., Tokushima, Kagawa, Ehime and Kochi Prefectures), to improve the quality of sake brewed in the Shikoku region, and to contribute to the sound development of the sake industry.

Entry Status

＊ One entry for Ginjo-shu and one for Kan-shu allowed per licensed sake brewery.

  When Kan-shu entrants were evaluated, the entrants were served warm.
  

Quality of Entrants

As for ginjo-shu, there have been many high-quality products where the rich ginjo aroma and flavor harmonize greatly, with crisp aftertaste.
As for kan-shu (warmed sake), there have been many good-quality products to be served warm, having an adequate mature aroma and well-matched soft taste.
Regarding the brewing conditions, the rice ingredient was dissolved to an adequate degree. It was a year suitable for brewing sake, with the temperature dropping during the peak season of winter brewing.
Wonderful sake products were made under such favorable environment, with the sake brewing techniques accumulated by each brewer over a long period of time and the passion of those engaged in sake brewing exerted to the fullest extent.

List of Prize Winners

13 breweries won prizes in the Ginjo-shu category, and 14 breweries won prizes in the Kan-shu category.
